Community Training
Seguin's Community Training program provides adults with disabilities with training in the areas of:
- job readiness skills
- on-the-job training
- vocational skills
- communication and socialization
- public transportation
- money management
- recreation skills
- self-help skills
These areas of development enhance each individual's opportunity to be included in community activities with non-disabled peers, and to experience the benefits of community employment. As part of their participation in Community Training, individuals may visit the following types of places: YMCA's, libraries, restaurants, malls, conservatories, museums, and various employment sites.
Increasing an individual's independence, self-esteem and integration into their community are the primary aims of Community Training.
Many individuals supported within the Community Training program or Community Employment Alternatives are now going to their jobs, recreation sites and employment without using Seguin's Training Center as a base of operations. Seguin is moving toward more and more individuals beginning and ending their days in community activities and employment with the level of staff support each individual needs.
