Community Employment

Through Seguin's Community Employment Alternatives program, adults working in the community are supported through job coaching from Seguin staff. At the same time, staff facilitates relationships at the work site to develop support for workers with disabilities from their co-workers.

Seguin offers job development services, on-the-job training, basic work-skill development and skill maintenance. Seguin helps participants find and keep community-integrated jobs and become productive, contributing community members.

Once employed by a business, each individual is assigned a job coach. A job coach provides:

  • On-the-job training to learn work tasks
  • Support and consultation services to the employer to enable them to provide greater levels of support and supervision for each individual
  • Accommodations or assistive technology needed for individuals to be successful on the job
  • Mobility training to help the individual become more independent. (This could include training with the public transportation system or linking individuals with door-to-door services)

Seguin supports individuals in the greater Chicago area in a variety of jobs. Food service, industrial parts assembly, recreation and fitness centers, janitorial services, maintenance, retail, and health care are just a few of the categories. If you know someone who might be interested in hiring individuals supported by Seguin, please contact David Hehn, Director of Community Employment Alternatives at 708-222-4837 for more information or by email at info@seguin.org.

Seguin also has a participant that has started his own business -
